What Is the Chevening Scholarship?
The Chevening Scholarship is the UK government's prestigious international awards programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). It offers fully-funded one-year Master's degrees at any UK university to outstanding students from over 160 countries — including Pakistan.

What Does Chevening Cover?
- Full tuition fees — 100% covered regardless of university or programme
- Monthly living stipend — covers accommodation, food, and daily expenses

- Thesis or dissertation grant — if applicable
- Study travel grant — for travel within the UK related to your studies

Eligibility Criteria
- Pakistani citizen (not a UK citizen or permanent resident)
- Hold a degree equivalent to a UK upper second class (2:1) — generally 65%+ or CGPA 3.0+
- Minimum 2 years of work experience (full-time, post-bachelor)
- IELTS 6.5 overall (some universities require 7.0); must be obtained before interviews
- Commitment to return to Pakistan for at least 2 years after completing Chevening
- Not currently studying on another UK-funded scholarship

Essay Writing Tips
Leadership Essay
- Use a specific, concrete example — not a vague claim
- Describe the situation, your role, the challenge, your action, and the outcome
- Quantify impact where possible ("led a team of 12", "increased by 40%")
- Avoid describing group achievements as your own
Networking Essay
- Show how you strategically built professional networks, not just attended events
- Describe a specific professional relationship that created value
- Link your networking to professional impact — not just personal benefit
Career and Study Plans Essay
- Be extremely specific about your career plan — not just "I want to help Pakistan"
- Name the exact role, sector, and organisation you plan to work in after Chevening
- Explain precisely how your chosen Master's programme bridges the gap from where you are now to where you want to be
- Mention one or two modules by name that are directly relevant to your goals
The Chevening Interview
Shortlisted candidates are invited for a 30-minute interview at the British High Commission in Islamabad or the Deputy High Commission in Karachi/Lahore.
